Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions about Studyond

General

General

What is Studyond?

Studyond is a quality-assured platform that connects students, universities, and companies for guest lectures, applied projects, theses, internships, interview partners, entry-level positions, and many other use cases.

Who is behind the platform?

The Studyond platform grew out of an Innosuisse research project initiated by ETH Zurich, the University of St. Gallen (HSG), and Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences (OST). The Swiss Employers' Association and economiesuisse took part as implementation partners. Today, Studyond is an official HSG Spin-Off and ETH Startup. In 2026, it was accepted into the MITdesignX Startup Accelerator Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Where is the software developed?

The entire Studyond platform is developed and operated in Switzerland. All development work is carried out by teams in Switzerland; no development is outsourced abroad. This enables us to maintain the highest standards of data protection, security, and software quality.

For Students

How much does it cost?

Studyond is completely free for students, with all features and no subscription or hidden fees.

How do I create an account?

Sign up with your official university email address and confirm your account using the verification code. You can then immediately discover opportunities and apply.

How do I find relevant opportunities?

Our AI recommends suitable opportunities for thesis topics, industry partners, internships, or interview partners based on your degree program, interests, and skills. You can also filter manually by industry, university, and field if you prefer to browse yourself.

Can I apply to several company opportunities at the same time?

Applications are limited at certain points to ensure quality and fairness. We recommend focusing on one opportunity per company that genuinely matches your interests and goals.

What if my desired topic or company isn't listed?

Contact the Studyond team at hello@studyond.com; we will help you find suitable opportunities or companies from our wider network.

Can I arrange expert interviews?

Yes. You can contact professionals directly through the expert directory or the relevant company profile to request an interview or research support.

Is Studyond really free for job seekers?

Yes, completely. Job searches, applications, and profiles are free for students. The platform is funded by our partner companies.

Do I need to have done a thesis on Studyond to apply for jobs?

No. Any student with a verified university email address can apply. However, if you have already completed a project, thesis, or internship with a company through Studyond, the company already knows how you work, giving you a clear advantage.

What kinds of jobs are available?

Internships, working-student roles, and graduate positions at companies ranging from SMEs to large corporations that actively collaborate with universities and universities of applied sciences.

How is Studyond different from LinkedIn or Indeed?

Every company on Studyond actively invests in university collaboration. Your academic background, projects, and research interests matter, not only keywords on your CV.

Does an applied project or thesis help my job application?

Significantly. A multi-month project is a work sample under real conditions, the strongest predictor of job performance and far more informative than CV screening or interviews. Companies that already know you can make a decision more easily.

How do I apply for a job?

Apply directly with your Studyond profile in one click, including your university, degree program, projects, skills, and interests. No separate cover letter or CV formatting is required.

When should I start looking for opportunities on Studyond?

Ideally, start during your studies, whether for guest lectures, applied projects, interviews, your thesis, or career entry. The earlier your profile is ready, the stronger your position when you are ready.

Can I also find thesis topics on Studyond?

Yes. Alongside applied projects, interview requests, and jobs, thesis topics are a core part of Studyond. A project or thesis is often the best first step before applying for a full-time position.

Finding Topics & Projects

Are there opportunities in my field?

Studyond lists thousands of topics, projects, and internships across all major fields, from business and engineering to the social and natural sciences. Use the field filter or AI matching to find the most relevant results.

Will I actually hear back if I apply for a topic?

Every listing comes from a company that is actively looking. Your application goes directly to the contact person. Most respond within a few days; a brief follow-up after one week is perfectly appropriate.

Can I choose a company topic if my supervisor has specific requirements?

Yes. Most opportunities are designed to meet academic standards. You coordinate the scope and methodology with your supervisor.

What if I am looking for something other than a thesis topic?

Studyond is not limited to thesis topics. You can also find shorter applied projects, interview partners for qualitative research, internships, or guest-lecture opportunities. Use the type filter or AI matching.

How does AI matching work?

Based on your degree program, interests, and skills, the AI recommends suitable topics, projects, internships, and experts. The more complete your profile, the more precise the recommendations; manual filtering is always available.

Is Studyond really free for students?

Yes, 100%. You have full access to all opportunities and matching features at no cost. The platform is funded by the companies and organizations that use it.

For Researchers

Is Studyond free for researchers?

Yes, without restrictions: no subscription, hidden fees, or budget request.

How does Studyond handle research data and data protection?

Studyond complies with the GDPR and the Swiss Data Protection Act. Data is stored in EU data centers in Frankfurt and is never shared with companies without your explicit consent. You decide what is visible on your profile.

Who institutionally supports Studyond?

Studyond was developed with Innosuisse, ETH Zurich, the University of St. Gallen (HSG), and other partners. Today, Studyond is an official HSG Spin-Off and ETH Startup. In 2026, it was accepted into the MITdesignX Startup Accelerator Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Can I control what companies see about my research?

Completely. You decide what appears on your profile: research interests, published opportunities, and collaborations. Companies see only what you choose to share.

Which collaboration formats does Studyond support?

Guest lectures, applied projects, co-supervised bachelor and master theses, applied doctoral and postdoctoral collaborations, joint grant applications, and access to industry data and expertise.

Can I use Studyond for Innosuisse or Horizon Europe grant proposals?

Yes. Companies on Studyond are already involved in academic collaboration and are therefore natural partners for joint funding applications, such as NTN Innovation Checks, BRIDGE projects, or Horizon Europe.

How do students find my published opportunities?

Your opportunities are visible to students at all universities and universities of applied sciences. AI matching prioritizes them for suitable students; visibility can also be limited to selected universities.

What happens to my intellectual property?

You define the IP terms. Standardized agreements between you, your university, and the company govern methodology, publication rights, and data ownership. Studyond makes no claims of its own.

For Universities, Researchers & Faculty

What does it cost for supervisors and universities?

Creating and using an account is free for faculty. Universities can work with Studyond under institutional agreements, depending on scope, visibility, and integration needs. Contact us at hello@studyond.com.

How do I register as a supervisor?

Register with your official university email address and complete the standard verification process. Once verified, you can immediately publish topics and interact with companies and students.

How many topics can I upload?

Faculty and researchers can publish an unlimited number of research and thesis topics, with no restrictions or quotas.

Can I invite my existing academic contacts?

Yes. Faculty and researchers can invite existing academic and industry partners to collaborate on Studyond, enabling structured engagement within an established network.

Will I know if a company posts a relevant topic?

Yes. Faculty and researchers receive real-time notifications when companies publish topics that match their research interests. Notification settings can be enabled or disabled at any time.

Is Studyond free for researchers?

Yes. Studyond is completely free for researchers and faculty. No subscription, hidden fees, or budget request is required.

Will this compromise my academic freedom or publication rights?

You retain full control over methodology, analysis, and publication rights. Companies provide the research question and access to data; academic supervision remains under your authority.

Are the companies relevant to my specific research domain?

Companies on Studyond post concrete research problems, not generic job listings. You can filter by domain, keyword, and industry to find partners working on problems in your field. If there are no matches today, create a researcher profile and let companies with relevant challenges find you.

Do I need my university's permission to use Studyond?

No. Researchers and faculty register individually with their institutional email address. No procurement process, IT integration, or institutional approval is required.

For Companies

What are the subscription costs?

Creating an account and joining the Studyond network is free. Individual industry experts can publish thesis topics or support students as interview partners at no cost. Enterprise customers receive advanced features, visibility, and controls; pricing is available on our pricing page.

Can I limit who sees my topics?

Yes. Companies can limit the visibility of thesis topics and internships to selected universities and degree programs to ensure relevance and strategic focus.

Can I participate without posting topics?

Yes. Experts can join Studyond without publishing their own topics. This allows you to explore the ecosystem, observe student interest, and prepare internally before launching projects.

How does the matching process work?

An AI-based matching algorithm considers profiles, interests, and skills.

Can we use our own Single Sign-On (SSO)?

Yes. Custom single sign-on integration is available to enterprise customers on request. Your teams can access Studyond using the company’s existing authentication systems, ensuring security and compliance with minimal IT effort.

How is this different from a job board?

Job boards deliver volume. Studyond delivers signal: structured student profiles with academic context, AI matching by degree program and skills, and optionally a four- to six-month work sample through a thesis collaboration. Research shows that work samples are the strongest predictor of later job performance.

Do we need to change our ATS or hiring process?

No. Studyond runs in the browser and can be ready in five minutes. Connect it to your ATS through a link integration or use it independently. No IT integration is required.

Are students experienced enough for real innovation work?

Thesis students conduct exploration, not implementation. They bring academic methods (literature reviews, structured data collection, and documented analyses) and are supervised by experienced researchers. Your role is to provide the research question and domain context.

We don't have time to supervise thesis projects.

The time required depends on the project and your agreed role. Academic supervisors handle methodology, scheduling, and quality assurance; you provide the research question, context, and subject-matter expertise. The scope and check-ins are agreed together before the project starts.

What kinds of projects work well as thesis topics?

Market exploration, technology validation, competitive analysis, business-model testing, and process optimization. The key is choosing projects that need structured investigation rather than rapid implementation. If you need a report in two weeks, hire a consultancy. If you need sound evidence for a strategic decision, a thesis project is the better investment.

For Study Programs

Do we need IT approval or a procurement process?

No. Studyond requires no software installation, no system integration, and no budget approval. Students sign up independently using their university email address. The platform runs in the browser; there is nothing for your IT team to configure or maintain.

What data does our program get as a partner?

Partner degree programs receive a cohort dashboard showing which students used the platform, how many topics received applications, which companies interacted with the program, and how student research and applied projects progressed. This data is available without surveys, spreadsheets, or manual tracking.

Can we brand our program on the platform?

Yes. Your degree program’s name, logo, and description appear on every student profile and application. Whenever students interact with companies by browsing topics, applying, or collaborating, your brand travels with them. Your program’s industry reputation grows with every student project, without additional effort from your team.

What types of topics will our students find?

Studyond maintains a list of thousands of thesis and applied-project topics across all fields, from business, engineering, and natural sciences to social sciences, computer science, and law. Students filter by degree level, field, industry, and format. AI matching shows the topics most relevant to each student’s profile and interests.

How do companies get involved with our students?

Companies publish thesis topics and project briefs throughout the year. Students discover these topics and apply directly, without faculty having to act as intermediaries.

Can multiple programs from our university join independently?

Yes. Each degree program has its own presence on Studyond, with its own branding, cohort analytics, and configuration. A university with several programs (such as separate bachelor’s, master’s, and MBA programs) can list each independently. Institution-wide coordination is not required.

What happens after students complete their thesis?

Studyond tracks the thesis-to-employment pipeline for each degree program. Companies often publish vacancies alongside their thesis topics. Students who complete a thesis with a company enter the application process with an established working relationship. Your program gains insight into graduates’ employability outcomes, not only completion rates.
